Kid's Church Decorating Day!

Every quarter of the year we change our kid's church theme! This past Saturday we had our quarterly teacher's meeting and decorating day, which I look forward to. It's a lot of fun decorating and refreshing our minds for a new theme and time of reaching out to kids! We have been focusing on kid's church outreach lately and had a brand new, very excited 10 year old boy in church this Sunday. He was out bouncing up and down with excitement standing on the curb waiting for us to pick him up! His mom said "He was so excited to come that he woke up at 6 this morning!" lol  Here are some pics from our decorating day!

Just getting started... the sanctuary is normally a mess when we first start! We have children's church in our sanctuary because we don't have any extra Sunday school type rooms to do this in. So every weekend the backdrop gets set up, then taken back down after kid's church, folded up and put in the back behind the little half wall you see in the picture above.

Our new theme is called "Kid's R Kool," which resembles a 1950's soda shoppe! The theme talks about kid's in the Bible that God protected and used for His glory! Examples: Moses, Samuel, Joseph, etc. The kids learn these Bible stories and are also encouraged by knowing that things happen in their lives when they're young for a reason. God wants to use kids!
Just getting started with the backdrop!

We make signs and props by pointing a projector at the wall and tracing the transparencies onto while poster board!

After tracing with pencil, we then outline everything with black sharpie markers before coloring them in!
We had tons of ice cream cones, ice cream sodas, and ice cream sundaes to color in! But I love coloring, so it was fun!

The backdrop coming along! They re-attached the 3rd piece to make a 3 fold backdrop.
This time traveler was from the last theme we did! Since we don't have enough room to store all of our decorations, we just get rid of some of them and make them again next time we do that same thing, which isn't until about 4 years later anyhow! Witness the destruction of our time traveler...
Have to take pictures first though, of course!

I love the above picture of Sasha and Bell ripping it apart. At first they we trying to punch and kick it, but that wasn't working out to well. lol!
Tracing the jukebox!!
Then outlining...
Did I mention this jukebox took FOREVER to make? Paul and Matt made the actual structure out of cardboard and were very proud of their math and measurement skills. Even though Paul accidently sliced Matt's finger open with his knife!

Done coloring! Almost finished! The sides just needed to be covered with silver paper.
Matt's poor finger. I'm sorry if you're grossed out! But without the shedding of blood, there is no remission. lol Kidding..
The finalized backdrop!
Ice cream time! Okay, not really. This isn't the whole group that decorated, but a few of us took a pic before we left!
The next morning during kid's church! Zach played Frankie, the nervous soda jerk. :) He did a great job shaking and stuttering his first day on the job. lol
Moses! Moses did a great job acting. The kids learned about how God saved him as a baby... for a purpose! And these kids all have a purpose. What a great opportunity to reach out to children and such a tender and sensitive age!
