The sin of unbelief

When you hear the word sin, is unbelief the first thing that comes into your mind? Probably not. Most of us think along the lines of lying, cheating, fornication, adultery, murder, drunkenness, idolatry, ect. While those things are all definitely sin, I'm afraid there is something that many people overlook, including myself. Recently I have been studying about faith, doubt, fear, and unbelief and how they are are linked together. Doubt, fear, and unbelief are the three things that will tear on your faith. Those three things are not of God and greatly displease Him, as we can see all throughout Scripture.

Found in Mark chapter 5:38-39 Jesus' disciples were afraid because of the storm and asked, "Master, carest thou not that we perish?" His reply to them after calming the storm was, "Why are ye so fearful? How is it that ye have no faith?" It doesn't matter how bad the storm looks, it is the will of God that we have faith! Because without faith, it is impossible to please Him. (Hebrews 11:6) Unbelief is a serious thing.

Hebrews 3:12-13 says "Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God. But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin."

Verse 19 of the same chapter says, "So we see that they could not enter in because of unbelief."

Then it goes on to say in Hebrews 4:1-2 "Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it. For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it."

God does not like unbelief! If it is something you are struggling with, you can overcome it through prayer and hearing the Word of God. Fear and unbelief are things that we need to overcome if we want to make it to heaven. I was reading a verse the other day that jumped out me. Revalation 21:7-8 "He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death."

You see how important it is that we have faith and overcome fear and unbelief? When we are satisfied with the status quo, we fall into that place of unbelief. We need to come to every service expecting God to do something! We need to believe God for our healing, finances, and all of our other needs.

Lets obey the words that Jesus spoke in Mark 5:36 -"Be not afraid, only believe."

Great post Jen. The following scripture came to mind after reading your message.

1Jo 4:18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love.

Love you! Aunt Kiki
